By Emma Suttie, D.Ac Winter represents the most Yin aspect in Chinese medicine. Yin is the dark, cold, slow, inward energy. This is compared to the Yang of summer whose energy represents light, hot, quick, expansive qualities. The summer weather is warm, the days are longer and people are out being active. In Tracitional Chinese Medicine we belive that the diet and activities in winter should be adapted to enriching yin and subduing yang.
Winter in TCM is associated with the Kidneys which hold our body's most basic and fundamental energy. It is believed that by harmonizing oneself with the seasons you can stay healthier and prevent disease, so winter is a good time to strengthen the kidneys. Rest is important for revitalizing the kidneys, which is why some animals hibernate in winter. It is also a good time to look inward, reflecting on ourselves with meditation, writing or other inward practices such as Tai Chi or Qi Gong. Read more...
Traci is the best! "Like I told her last time I was on her table, if her needles can stop my head, for even a second, there must be something to it! I have been going to Traci for almost 3 years regularly and feel like my life is incomplete if I forget to schedule or miss an appointment. Never have experienced any discomfort, nothing but good things to say about Traci! Go to her. See for yourself." ~C.M.
On wellness and injury "Traci usually works on me for wellness, and I feel better at 57 than ever, acupuncture playing a really noticeable part. Then I had a fall, with a nasty ligament injury. So I asked about treating for improved repair and recovery. Still on crutches and sore, I felt better immediately after my first post-injury treatment and have much less pain the following day. Traci does a really nice job of hearing your issues and addressing them, be it for injury repair, or long term wellness." ~ Mark W.
Wonderful and effective treatment I was nervous about the needles being very painful, but I worried needlessly...no pain. I'm older and have Fibromyalgia, but even so, I'm getting relief from some of my pain and feeling like I have more energy. I've never had to wait for my treatment, and Traci is very efficient, kind, gentle and always interested in how I did since my last treatment, so she can determine the current treatment. I have been very pleased." ~ Carolyn M.
